The only way is fun! Reaching new riders in Essex

CTC’s expanded programme of cycling has reached over 1,000 people in Essex this year, thanks to additional funding from Essex County Council, Anglian Community Enterprise and Colchester Garrison.

The total includes 317 people who either hadn’t been on a bike with CTC or at all, and a number have learned to ride a bike for the first time in 2012.

CTC Cycle Champions has formed new partnerships with ACE Health Trainers and Colchester Garrison to name just two and together they are helping to change people’s lives for the better.

Said Emily, who started on the Garrison rides:

“I have lost weight and gained enough confidence to help others thanks to the health trainers and the cycle group.”

For Val, cycling has given her a new-found energy:

I feel really exhilarated after my bike ride. It is good to feel so positive about life and looking forward to my next bike ride.”

And Mary, who joined the health ride from Leisure World added:

"All in all, cycling has really encouraged me to do exercise which I would not have entertained before – it gives a great feeling of well being.”
