Going the Extra Mile: Our Volunteer Celebration 2020

Going the Extra Mile: Our Volunteer Celebration 2020

Our annual Volunteer Celebration is a chance to commemorate and thank all the amazing volunteers who devote so much of their time, energy, passion and skills to enabling more people to enjoy cycling. This year, the event on 3-4 October will be virtual due to the current restrictions, but will include a wide range of guest speakers, workshops, webinars, activities and events aimed at increasing diversity in cycling. It's FREE to register and will be exclusive to Cycling UK's volunteers and members.

Volunteer Celebration 2020

Our volunteers are amazing! They are the unsung heroes who help our wheels spin round and put smiles on our faces by offering their time, energy and skills freely to enable us to enjoy the wonderful gift of cycling. During this difficult year, especially, many of them have stepped up to the plate to perform random acts of kindness for others, whether delivering food and medication by bike, keeping up morale in their groups with newsletters and cycling games, fixing up and donating bikes or helping out in the community in other ways. We will celebrate their contributions during the weekend with our special Going the Extra Mile Lockdown Love Volunteer Awards 2020.

Other events will include:

  • Safeguarding awareness – how to protect vulnerable cyclists
  • Diversity – join a panel discussion on inclusive cycling groups
  • Subconscious bias – how to tackle racism in cycling
  • Plus more to be announced

Finally, there will be a fun nationwide pub quiz open to all cycling groups and individuals with a fabulous prize for the most correct answers!

Full details of the event, which will take place on the weekend of 3-4 October, and how to register for it will be available soon.

In the meantime, please send in your nominations for our Lockdown Love awards today.

We look forward to seeing you in October.
