Cycling UK helps women in Chelmsford to start cycling

Cycling UK has joined up with Chelmsford City Council to assist more women try cycling through the WoMEn TIME project.

A pilot project late last summer proved a big hit with the first dozen women learning to cycle over a five-week programme. Now Cycling UK has set up more sessions and cycle rides specifically encouraging women to try cycling.

“The Council’s WoMEn TIME project is really positive and encouraging, removing many of the barriers that women have when it comes to taking up a recreational activity."

Richard Monk,  Cycling UK Cycling Development Officer for Essex

Cycling UK Development Officer for Essex Richard Monk says: “The Council’s WoMEn TIME project is really positive and encouraging, removing many of the barriers that women have when it comes to taking up a recreational activity. The project is all about making cycling easy: we provide bikes and equipment, together with really friendly leaders and instructors, who make it gentle, sociable and FUN.”

Rosie Hurrell, who co-ordinates the WoMEn TIME project added: “Chelmsford successfully bid for Sport England funding and is already getting thousands of women interested in a huge variety of sport and recreation.

Cycling is such a great activity not only for health and fitness but also for meeting others, discovering the city and getting about. Chelmsford City Council is delighted to be working with Cycling UK, who have already got hundreds of people cycling in Chelmsford.”
