About us

Surrey is great for cycling, with very varied terrain. There are vast tracts of common land - fantastic for mountain biking - and quiet rural areas of farmland. You probably didn't know that Surrey has more trees and woodland than any other county in England. The Surrey Hills and North Downs offer challenging climbs but if you're looking for some easier cycling, we have canal towpaths and old railway lines to follow too. Being close to London means that the roads can be busy and this makes local knowledge all the more important. Our members have a wealth of experience when it comes to cycling in Surrey; by joining West Surrey CTC, you'll be able to ride with us, as well as take advantage of everything we know about cycling in the area.

Most of our members live in or around the towns of Guildford, Woking, Godalming, Farnham, Haslemere, Camberley and Frimley. Our regular weekly rides start from pre-arranged locations within this area. We offer mainly on-road rides at a range of speeds and over a range of distances to suit most abilities.

Our organised rides mostly take the form of day or half day rides, usually on a Sunday or a Wednesday, starting between 9am and 10am and take advantage of quiet lanes wherever possible. We stop for coffee mid-morning and then for lunch, often at a pleasant country pub. Alternatively, those who prefer to bring their own food are welcome to do so. In the afternoon we usually stop at a café or garden centre for tea and cakes.

Whatever your ability, if you're in our area then you would be most welcome to join one of our rides. Why not check us out without the need to join initially, although you'll be encouraged to join if you decide you like the rides we organise. There is no cost involved if joining one of our rides.

Information about our rides can be found on our Rides List - located on our web site

Information about the group rides

We organise cycle rides of different lengths and different speeds, so there’s a good chance that there will be one that will suit your level of fitness -or lack of it! We’re into leisure cycling in this club, not riding or looking like we’re in the Tour de France!

Even if you’re not a member, you can come along on one of our rides to see how you like riding with us. Just let the ride leader know you’re new when you turn up or, better still, give him / her a call beforehand. If you’re not used to riding in a group, we’ll help you quickly to get used to it. If you enjoy the experience and decide to come out with us on a regular basis, we’ll ask you to consider joining the club. Membership offers many benefits – you can take a look at these by scrolling further down this page.

Our rides usually take place on a Sunday or a Wednesday and take the form of day or half day rides, starting between 9.00 and 10.00am. We meet at a variety of locations in our area and take advantage of quiet lanes wherever possible. We usually stop for coffee mid-morning and longer rides then stop for lunch, often at a pleasant country pub (or you can bring your own food if you prefer). In the afternoon we usually stop at a café or garden centre for tea and cakes.
