The 2020 Kirkpatrick Macmillan Rally - KM180 will be held at the Barnsoul Caravan and Camping Park near Shawhead in beautiful Dumfries and Galloway, and hosted by volunteers from CTC Dumfries and Galloway.
Located within Dumfries and Galloway's quiet road system, the KM180 Rally features rides over the 2020 May Bank Holiday weekend, Friday 22nd to Monday 25th.
As well as being the touring cyclist's dream, Dumfries and Galloway's quiet back roads provide some of the best family cycling conditions in the UK. To take advantage of this, we're offering a programme of short family friendly rides of up to 10-15 miles in total with stop-offs at playgrounds, shops and other places of interest and all on the quietest of rural roads.
In collaboration with Cycling Dumfries, who have been running family rides in the area for several years, these led rides should be suitable for accompanied children riding independently, or families using cargo bikes, trailers or child seats. They'd also be great for anyone who just wants a gentler, shorter run on quiet roads.
SOCIAL EVENINGS: Friday 8pm, Shawhead Hall. Wine, tea and coffee, juice and nibbles provided. Meet and chat with other Rallyists. Also, wind-down Monday, 25th May, 'Unplanned & Unplugged' at the BBQ area of Barnsoul after the evening meal. Bring what you have left for sharing, sing a few songs and play a few tunes (no tickets required, just turn up).
PRESENTATION: Saturday 8pm, Shawhead Hall. Janet Kerr will give a talk on the challenges she set herself during 2019 as a young 50 year old cyclist with Parkinson's. Heartwarming, funny, sad, inspirational and not to be missed.
QUIZ: Sunday, 8pm, Shawhead Hall. Join a team and pool your knowledge. Fun for everyone, including children, and prizes!
We are including the well known Sunday Breakfast Ride to Keir Mill (Kirkpatrick Macmillan's birthplace), and where he constructed the first pedal driven bicycle.
After the Breakfast, being so close to Drumlanrig Castle, there is an opportunity to visit and see the KM Replica bicycle which is now on permanent display in the Castle Visitor Reception Room.
The weekend also features the well established Dumfries and Galloway Spring Fling, Arts and Crafts event and some of the lead rides will feature visits to studios within cycling distance of Barnsoul.
