100 Women in Cycling: Nominations close soon for 2019

The Women’s Festival of Cycling returns this July and alongside it once again is Cycling UK’s list of 100 Women in Cycling. The deadline for nominations is Friday 03 May.

100 Women in Cycling recognises inspirational woman who are leading by example in the wonderful and life-enhancing activity of cycling. We need you to nominate your female role models so that this summer, as part of the Women's Festival of Cycling, we can celebrate our third list of 100 Women in Cycling in our continuing quest to address the gender imbalance in cycling.

The London Bike Show at the end of March played host to the launch of this year’s festival. Cycling celebrity and 100 Women in Cycling 2018 nominee Anna Glowinski took to the main stage with Cycling UK ambassador Angellica Bell to announce the return of the Women’s Festival this year, as well as opening the nominations for our third list of 100 Women in Cycling.

Anna also had the pleasure to announce that the first nominee of 2019’s list would be Angellica, in recognition of her inspirational journey into cycling, her passion for encouraging everyday cycling for families and her commitment to increasing women’s cycling.

We received over 200 nominations over the weekend of the London Bike Show, and they have continued to come in over the last few weeks. While the panel already have a difficult job in compiling the final 100, if you haven’t yet submitted a nomination there is still time. But hurry, the deadline is Friday 03 May.

Who can you nominate?

The list is made up of influential and inspiring women from all walks of life. Whether a champion in their local community or an international superstar, the only qualification for nomination is that they are female and positively promote cycling and encourage others to take part.

Women from any and every corner of the cycling world can be nominated, from mountain bikers and endurance cyclists to community group leaders, cycling school-run mums and industry entrepreneurs.

Please note: those included in a previous year won't be shortlisted for 2019 but you can view last year's list for inspiration.

Women's Festival of Cycling

As well as opening the nominations, both Anna and Angellica spent time on stage at the London Bike Show discussing their journey’s into cycling, their inspirational role models, and why the Women’s Festival of Cycling is so important.

Anna and Angellica have taken very different paths into cycling, but both are passionate about how important it is to encourage other women to give it a go.

Cycling UK's recent survey of Cycling UK’s female members showed that overwhelmingly it is a friend, family member or colleague that inspired people to take up cycling. That’s why this year we’re calling on everyone to grab a friend (or two!) and get outside and ride – whether that’s an organised event, or a quick spin to the café.

The Women’s Festival runs from 1 to 31 July and will involve events and rides up and down the country. You can find out what is happening near you with our female-friendly events listings.

Organise your own event

We’re also asking for everyone to put on events – from cycling clubs looking for more female riders to women who just organise a casual get together.

Cycling UK will provide you with the support, advice and promotional materials to help your event be successful. If you have questions or need help with organising an event you can get in touch with the Women’s Festival of Cycling team.
